Promotion to X033 SOM track Professor

Advisory review by the BSD Committee on Appointments and Promotions (COAP) is ordinarily required, and all documents are due at the Office of Academic Affairs by noon 3 weeks in advance of the COAP meeting in the EXPECTED FORMAT.  Follow these INSTRUCTIONS to reserve a COAP slot.

COMPONENTS:

_____Updated CV & personal statements MS Word 

_____Up to 5 exemplary peer-reviewed works, either published or accepted for publication, if available and/or publication is part of the job description

_____Chair’s letter to Dean  MS Word 

_____Grid of external assessors, their contact information, and rationale for their selection (if not in Chair's letter)

_____Letter used to solicit external assessments

_____External assessments

_____ Internal assessments of clinical and educational acumen, if needed

_____ Letter of assessment from BSCD Master or documentation that one has been requested (for Basic Science Departments and/or if candidate teaches in The College) 

_____Teaching evaluations

_____ Other concurrences,* and documents as customary for a department.  These might include Section Chiefs' letters and reports of internal promotions committees.

THE ABOVE DOCUMENTS SHOULD BE COMBINED IN THE EXPECTED FORMAT AND SUBMITTED ELECTRONICALLY TO OAA NOON 3 WEEKS IN ADVANCE OF THE COAP MEETING.  ORDINARILY PAPER COPIES ARE DUE AT THE TIME OF THE COAP MEETING.

Post-approval/Payroll—Upon approval of appointment, the department should follow all the Work Day steps to ensure all required forms are uploaded completely and correctly. Work Day Reference Guide.  All required action must be completed by the WD payroll deadline to guarantee a paycheck at the end of the month.

 

*When a faculty member is appointed in more than one department, normally one is primary and the others are secondary.  The primary department assesses overall academic performance and recommends an action to the Dean and Provost.  Secondary BSD departments assess the contribution to the secondary departments and vote on this basis to concur with the recommendation of the primary department.  Concurrence is also required when the secondary appointment is in a non-BSD department, School, Institute for Molecular Engineering, or in an interdivisional institute.  The Cancer Center and any secondary unit providing resources essential to the proposed appointment should also concur.  Ph.D.-granting Committees need not concur in cases involving an existing member, although they may do so.  New secondary appointments to Ph.D.-granting Committees require a faculty vote.
